California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Complaint Fee Imposed on Insurers

Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi announced that he has begun charging companies for the costs of handling consumer complaints against them. When a consumer complaint file is closed by the Insurance Department, Garamendi said the insurer will be charged $198 in most cases and $285 if a supervisor’s intervention is required--enough to cover the average costs incurred.
