HDTV Consortium Gains New Member: Compression Labs Inc., a San Jose firm that has been a pioneer in video compression technology, has joined a consortium that includes Philips, Thomson, NBC and the Sarnoff Labs in developing a new type of television system known as high-definition television (HDTV). The Philips/Thomson consortia is one of five groups participating in a Federal Communications Commission competition that’s designed to chose an American standard for HDTV broadcasting.
