A July 25 reception at the Verdugo Club will honor La Crescenta resident Harry Smith on his promotion to director of personnel for the Western Region of Boy Scouts of America. Smith has been Scout executive of the Verdugo Hills Council of Boy Scouts for 15 years. In that time, membership in the council has increased to 6,000 Scouts.

Glendale resident Julia Gettinger has been appointed to the planning council of the Los Angeles County Child Care Advisory Board. The 45-member council defines priorities for use of federal child-care and development funds in Los Angeles County. Gettinger is vice president of work and family programs at First Interstate Bank of California.

Jose Robledo, recent interim president of West Los Angeles College, has been named acting president of Los Angeles City College. Robledo has held several administrative positions since joining the Los Angeles Community College District in 1984. He replaces Edwin Young, who retired as LACC president June 28.

Jeffrey B. Harris of La Canada Flintridge has been elected to the board of directors of Los Angeles Mens Place, or LAMP, a nonprofit organization providing housing, employment and mental health treatment to the homeless. Harris is a business and tax attorney.
