A Chula Vista man was injured in Southeast San Diego late Wednesday or early Thursday when a bullet shattered the rear window of his car and hit him in the back, police said.

Hector Hernandez, 18, was able to drive to Paradise Valley Hospital. He was discharged Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

San Diego police questioned Hernandez at the hospital shortly after midnight, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The exact time of the shooting remained unclear.

Hernandez told officers that he was driving his car on Division Street near Skyline Drive when he passed about five or six Filipino or Latino men, Robinson said. Hernandez said he suspected that someone in the group shot him.

It was unknown whether the incident was gang-related, Robinson said.
