An early-morning fire Friday at a fabrics store that caused about $700,000 in damages to the contents was deliberately set, officials said.

About 75 firefighters responded at 12:40 a.m. Friday to a three-alarm fire at San Diego Fabrics Co. at 1003 University Ave. in Hillcrest, said Dan Goebel, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire Department.

The blaze was under control by about 1:30 a.m., and structure loss was about $225,000, Goebel said. One firefighter suffered minor neck and back injuries when she fell about 10 feet in an elevator shaft, Goebel said.

The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. Goebel declined to say how officials determined it was arson.
