KIDS’ STYLE : FASHION : Small Wonders

Share

The fun of having a child around is the chance to indulge in childish things. And indulge is definitely the right word. Even during the recent recession, there’s been an explosion of pricey fashion and furniture for children. Artists and companies known for creating adult goods have expanded into kids’ lines with surprising success. After all, buying a pair of $44 designer overalls for an infant or a $300 hand-painted chair for a toddler can be viewed as both indulgence and economy--a frivolous purchase, perhaps, but a budget-conscious splurge considering what the grown-up version might cost.

When it comes to kids’ fashion, infant wear is the hot news. Clothes for kids who can barely sit up used to be fairly dreary. But now there are jeans outfits, polka-dot jumpsuits and itsy-bitsy rugby outfits just like Pop’s.
