Firms Urged to Link Up With Commuter-TV System
Declaring a six-month pilot program a success, transit officials Wednesday urged employers to link up with the country’s only closed-circuit TV system that helps commuters avoid freeway trouble spots.
Commuter-TV offers a continual update of freeway traffic conditions and will help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in Los Angeles County, said Jerry Baxter, district director of the California Department of Transportation.
The system already is operational in the Hall of Administration, where the county’s 2,902 employees can check traffic conditions on 13 freeways before starting the drive home. “Com-TV” also is in place in the lobbies of nine major downtown office buildings and at various other locations countywide, Baxter said.
