The press packet for Fantastica ‘91, an annual art and design tour of West Hollywood being held Sunday to benefit the Friends of the Los Angeles Free Clinic, made quite a splashy impact on our desk.
Very impressive. Colorful. Printed on good quality stock. Attractive typography. We don’t know Helvetica from a Garamond Bold, but we know what we like.
This event, we immediately announced, must be told to the masses. And it didn’t hurt that our boss called us up a minute earlier and told us to use it as the Best Bet.
“Great idea,” we told him. “We were thinking of exactly the same thing just before you called.”
He made some unkind comments about our work attitude, and the fact that we began our summer doldrums back in February, and rang off.
We felt a major snit coming on, and it was only through reading the impressive array of goodies that the organizers of this event had in store that our mood lightened.
In addition to a tour of art galleries, antique shops and design showrooms, there will be performers, a silent auction and food tastings from participating restaurants.
Fantastica ’91 will run from noon to 5 p.m., beginning at the Pacific Design Center, 8787 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood. Admission is $25. For information, call (213) 653-1990 ($25).
