13-Year-Old Skater Dies in Collision With Bus
A 13-year-old Hermosa Beach boy was killed Thursday when he collided with an RTD bus and was run over as he skated on roller blades in the coastal community, police said.
The unidentified youth was skating downhill with his 11-year-old sister on Pier Avenue near Hermosa Avenue just after 5 p.m. when he was unable to stop at a red light, Sgt. Steve Endom said.
“He ran right into the side of the bus and was sucked underneath it and killed instantly,” Endom said. “There’s just no way the driver could have stopped. Those (skates) are dangerous things.”
