A man believed to be a transient was stabbed repeatedly by six assailants on a street corner in Southeast San Diego early Saturday but survived, police said.

The victim, identified as Nicholas Perez, was standing on a corner at the intersection of 24th Street and Imperial Avenue when he was jumped by six men about 5:10 a.m., said a San Diego Police spokesman.

Perez was stabbed eight or more times, investigators said, and was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
