VENTURA : City to Begin Test of New Traffic Signal

Share

Drivers trying to make a left turn at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Monmouth Way in Ventura will encounter a new traffic signal allowing them to turn whether or not there is a green arrow, a city spokesman said.

The new signal, similar to those in use for several years at some other intersections in Ventura County, will be tested for the first time in the city, said spokesman Robert Yalda.

If successful, the signal will be put to use at other intersections throughout the city, he said.

With the current left-turn signals, drivers may not proceed after the arrow turns red.

Under the new arrangement, left-turn signals provide the usual green arrows followed by yellow arrows, he said.

After the yellow arrow has ended, drivers will not see a red arrow, but a solid green circle indicating that left turns can be made when there are adequate gaps in opposing traffic.

The new traffic signal is designed to help minimize delays by allowing vehicles to turn on the green signal after opposing traffic has cleared.
