The Rams came out of Saturday night’s exhibition-season opening loss to the Atlanta Falcons with no serious injuries, but several minor ones.

Rookie cornerback Robert Bailey broke a bone in his right hand and should miss two weeks, although he might be able to return to practice earlier, Coach John Robinson said Sunday. Safety Alfred Jackson sprained his left ankle and should miss a week, tackle Jackie Slater injured his groin and tackle Robert Cox hurt his knee.

After holding out tailback Cleveland Gary, tackle Gerald Perry, guard Bern Brostek and center Doug Smith due to minor injuries, Robinson said all three probably will play next Monday night at Anaheim Stadium against the San Diego Chargers. Robinson also said Jim Everett, held out of the action Saturday, will start at quarterback and play the first half.

Robinson praised the play of right cornerback Latin Berry and safety Anthony Newman, who is battling Michael Stewart for the strong safety spot. . . . With nine uninterrupted days until their next game, the Rams are going back into two-a-day practices this week. The Rams finish the exhibition season with three games in 10 days.
