ABC’s coverage of the first weekend of the Pan American Games was among the weekend’s least-watched nationally televised sports events, finishing behind tapes of a football passing contest, the 1971 Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier fight and three live broadcasts.
Saturday’s telecast drew a 2.4 rating and Sunday’s a 3.4 and a “Wide World of Sports” segment on the games a 2.9, according to figures from the 26 major markets released by the A.C. Nielsen Co.
