Two teen-agers were killed and another youth was critically injured in an alcohol-related accident off a remote canyon road in Malibu, authorities said Tuesday.

The driver, Clint Raynor, and a passenger, Frederick Krumm, both 17 of Thousand Oaks, were pronounced dead at the scene Monday night. The third victim, Michael Sharkey, 16, was airlifted to Westlake Community Hospital with critical injuries.

The accident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Monday as the three headed north on Decker Canyon Road from Pacific Coast Highway in a 1987 Chevy Camaro. Raynor tried to pass a slower vehicle on a curve but lost control of the car and went off the roadway, plunging an estimated 200 feet.

“Because of speed and his intoxicated condition, he failed to negotiate the turn,” a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.
