Chuck Velona, a veteran of several Los Angeles television stations, has taken over as vice president and general manager of KDOC Channel 56 in Anaheim. Calvin Brack, the station’s former general manager, was promoted to chief executive officer.

Velona has more than 30 years experience in sales, management and programming, most of it at KHJ-TV (now KCAL-TV), where he earned Emmy and Golden Mike awards and brought Los Angeles Lakers basketball broadcasts to the station. Most recently, Velona was with the Prime Ticket cable sports channel.

KDOC is Orange County’s only commercial broadcast station. In addition to a local newscast, the station features a schedule heavy on syndicated reruns of past network shows and some original programming.

Brack called Velona an “outstanding general manager” whose experience with independent television stations will give KDOC “a sense of direction and professionalism that we’ve probably never had before.” Brack predicted “immediate changes in the program schedule” and, eventually, possible shifts in the type of programming the station offers.
