Meadow Star Faces Six at Saratoga
When Meadow Star lost by seven lengths to Lite Light in the 1 1/4-mile Coaching Club American Oaks, trainer Leroy Jolley gracefully accepted the defeat of his prize filly.
“She ran the best she could,” Jolley said after the race July 6 at Belmont Park.
Meadow Star’s ability appears to be too much for six other 3-year-old fillies, none of whom is Lite Light, in today’s $200,000 Alabama at Saratoga--if she can carry her talent 1 1/4 miles.
Meadow Star’s rivals in the Jim Dandy will be Versailles Treaty, Car Gal, Designated Dancer, Grand Girlfriend, Nalees Pin and Til Forbid. Each starter will carry 121 pounds.
Meadow Star, ridden by Jerry Bailey, will be seeking her 12th victory in 14 career starts. Her other loss was against colts in the 1 1/8-mile Wood Memorial on April 20 at Aquedeuct.
