High humidity on Saturday helped firefighters who were attempting to control a blaze that consumed 83 acres of brush east of Lake Wohlford in northeastern San Diego County.

Forestry inmate crews had contained the blaze by Saturday afternoon, and, thanks in part to the unusually humid conditions, were expecting to have it under control by late Saturday, according to the California Department of Forestry.

Authorities said no homes or other structures were threatened by the fire, which burned in the backcountry Rancho Guejito zone, east of Valley Center. An illegal campfire in the largely inaccessible area is the suspected cause, a forestry spokeswoman said.

The blaze began shortly after noon Friday and was expected to burn into today, authorities said. The land involved is state and federal property.
