Derailment at Seacliff

The Southern Pacific has shown that private enterprise cannot operate a railroad safely. It should be taken over by the government and set up to provide safe and expeditious movement of merchandise.

As a result of government supervision, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for the first time held a democratically run convention, and action was taken to provide benefits for the membership rather than the bosses. Let us hope that the government can do for the railroads what it did for the Teamsters.
