NEWPORT BEACH : Rehearing Sought for Wall on Beach
- Share via
A Newport Beach property owner plans to seek a rehearing on a permit to allow him to keep a wall on his beachfront property that is higher than permitted by city code and that encroaches on a public beach.
The owner of the residence at 1600 W. Ocean Front was denied an encroachment permit at a meeting in February.
Currently, the wall is up to 3 inches higher than the 3-foot limit allowed by city code. The landowner has agreed to make it conform with regulations.
But the owner argues that other properties nearby encroach on the beach walkway and that requiring the wall to be pushed back would be unfair. The owner also argues that relocating the wall would make the walkway uneven and an eyesore.
