Cubs Win S.D. Collegiate League Championship

Ryan Flanagan pitched a complete-game four-hitter as the Cubs defeated the Angels, 8-2, in the San Diego Collegiate League Championship at San Diego State’s Smith Sunday. The Cubs evened the three-game series, forcing a final contest at 7 p.m. tonight at Smith Field.
Flanagan of UC San Diego limited the Angels to four hits over seven innings, while teammates Toby Lehman (MiraCosta), Kevin Herde (USD) and Scott Gunther (UC Irvine) each had three hits and two RBIs to pace a 15-hit attack.
BOXING
In preparation for his WBC Super Welterweight title defense at the San Diego Sports Arena Aug. 17, Terry Norris will hold public workouts at the San Diego Omni Hotel downtown next to Horton Plaza this week. Norris will train from 2-3 p.m. daily.
Brett Lally, Norris’ opponent, will work out from noon to 2 p.m., while Norris’ brother, heavyweight Orlin Norris, can be seen from 3-4 p.m. The pre-fight weigh-in, also open to the public, will take place at 9 a.m. fight day at the Omni.
