One of the regular jockeys on Nebraska’s horse racing circuit has died at age 27, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Omaha police reports, Scott Baker was found dead in his trailer across the street from Ak-Sar-Ben Race Track Saturday night. Police received a call at 11:15 p.m. Saturday and came to Baker’s trailer.
Police found Baker outside the trailer with a gunshot wound to the head. He was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Baker was fifth in the jockey standings at Ak-Sar-Ben this season with 49 victories. He rode three winners on Saturday’s card.
