CAMARILLO : Restaurant Thieves Steal Safe, Meat

Share

Burglars were not content to swipe a safe from a fast-food restaurant in Camarillo--they apparently decided to have a barbecue, too.

Thirty pounds of hamburger meat were missing along with a day’s receipts that were inside the 500-pound safe.

The break-in occurred between 1 and 6:45 a.m. Sunday from a Taco Bell in an industrial park near Flynn and Adolpho roads, the Ventura County sheriff’s office said Monday.

The burglars cut telephone lines before entering the restaurant, disabling the shop’s burglar alarm, Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Lazz said.

“It looked like it was done by someone who knew what they were doing,” he said.

Authorities declined to say how much was in the safe.

Bill Sampson, who owns the Taco Bell, said Monday that “we’re installing a different kind of alarm system” designed to foil professional burglars.
