PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Schroeder Gives Marinovich a Tip

Share

Quarterback Jay Schroeder really knows how to loosen a guy up. In the locker room before Monday night’s game, which would mark the debut of rookie quarterback Todd Marinovich, Schroeder recounted to Marinovich the story of his NFL debut in 1985 with the Washington Redskins.

“My first snap in the preseason, I threw an interception,” Schroeder said. “My first snap in a regular-season game against Dallas, (defensive back) Dennis Thurman picked it off and ran it back for a TD.”

Marinovich’s response to Schroeder: “I’m going to try not to do that.”

Defensive lineman Mike Wise, who left camp last week for personal reasons, did not join the team on the trip. . . . Injuries: Guard Steve Wisniewski did not play because of a sprained left ankle. “I was ready to play,” he said after the game. “They just didn’t want to take a chance on the artificial turf.” . . . Running back Greg Bell, who rushed for 34 yards in 13 carries, sprained his left ankle late in the game. Free safety Eddie Anderson had the wind knocked out of him when hit in the sternum in the first half, but returned.

The Cowboys had four offensive drives inside the Raiders’ 20-yard line but could manage only four Ken Willis field goals. . . . Sixth-round defensive tackle Nolan Harrison had a good game, recording five tackles and a sack. A.J. Jimerson, Anthony Smith and Howie Long also had sacks.
