Share

Seven candidates have joined the race for the Ventura Unified School District Board of Trustees during an extended filing period that ended Wednesday.

The new candidates bring to 16 the number hoping to fill two vacant seats on the board. The deadline for filing was extended from Friday because veteran board members Vincent Ruiz and Barbara Myers decided not to seek reelection. The election will be held Nov. 5.

The deadline also was extended for the Community College District, the county Board of Education, Moorpark Unified, Oak Park Unified and Rio Elementary School districts. No new candidates filed in those elections.
