A 19-year-old Ramona man died early Thursday after an auto accident in which part of the roof of the car collapsed on him, authorities said.

The victim, Jeffrey Parker, was a passenger in a car driven by 20-year-old Devin J. King, who has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, said Phil Konstantin, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

The men were headed east on 3rd Street, just east of Via Alegre Drive in Ramona, about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday when King lost control while making a left turn and hit a large eucalyptus tree, Konstantin said.

The right front of the car was destroyed and part of the roof collapsed on Parker, he said. Both men were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where Parker died at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, said Everett Mauger, a county medical examiner’s investigator.

King was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
