New Manager Named for Van Nuys Airport
In 1967, Ronald J. Kochevar learned to fly at Van Nuys Airport. On Thursday, it was announced that Kochevar had returned to the airport as its manager.
Clifton A. Moore, executive director of the Los Angeles Department of Airports, announced that Kochevar had taken over Tuesday at Van Nuys, the world’s busiest general aviation airfield.
Kochevar, 46, of Culver City will replace Charles Zeman, who was appointed manager at Ontario International Airport. Kochevar has worked for the Department of Airports since 1984 and most recently was assistant manager at the Ontario airport.
Although it has no scheduled commercial air service, Van Nuys Airport is the seventh busiest airport in the nation in terms of takeoffs and landings. The city-owned facility has served as a training ground and playground for tens of thousands of private pilots. Kochevar received his pilot’s license there 24 years ago.
Kochevar said one of his priorities in his new position is to maintain the airport’s exemplary safety record.
