RAMS : Strickland Will Play Saturday at Outside Linebacker, End

Linebacker Fred Strickland, who signed Tuesday, will play in Saturday night’s exhibition against the Seahawks, but not entirely at his position.

Strickland will play left outside linebacker and also at left defensive end for Kevin Greene, who injured his right tricep Wednesday in practice.

“It’ll give Fred a chance to rush the passer some,,” defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher said.

Mike Wilcher will see more playing time this week. He will start at middle linebacker.

“We wanted to get Mike more time last week, but we had to play more nickel defense,” Fisher said. “We thought we’d be seeing more of a traditional running attack, but San Diego was evaluating its quarterbacks. Mike doesn’t play in our nickel packages.”

Fisher also said the first-team defense will get a longer workout in the Seattle game. He said it would play the entire first half and part of the third quarter.

“We need to have them get the feel for playing right after halftime,” Fisher said. “Guys will relax after a half during exhibition games. We need them to get prepared to play longer.”

The Rams concluded training camp Thursday and will practice at Rams Park in Anaheim today.
