BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Ryan Returns to Face Orioles Tonight
Nolan Ryan will return to the Texas Rangers’ starting rotation tonight against the Baltimore Orioles.
The 44-year-old Ryan, 7-5 with 2.80 ERA in 18 starts this season, has been on the disabled list because of a strained muscle in his right shoulder. He has not pitched since July 28.
San Diego Padres outfielder Bip Roberts will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to repair a torn cartilage in his left knee. The club placed Roberts on the 15-day disabled list.
Roberts was injured in a rundown during the first inning of Friday night’s game with the Atlanta Braves. To fill Roberts’ spot on the roster, the Padres recalled infielder Paul Faries from Triple-A Las Vegas.
