SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Condo Fire Causes $40,000 in Damage
A Tuesday morning fire caused about $40,000 in damage to a condominium, but no one was hurt.
Orange County firefighters took just five minutes to put out the blaze, which apparently started in the kitchen. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
The fire occurred on Calle Santa Barbara near Interstate 5 and Ortega Highway.
Javier Ramirez, 31, and his wife Maria, 29, live in the two-story home with their 9-year-old son, but they were not home at the time of the blaze, fire officials said. A neighbor saw smoke and reported it to the County Fire Department at 8:17 a.m.
The fire caused about $20,000 in damage to the structure and another $20,000 to the contents, said Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol. The local Red Cross is helping the family find temporary housing.
