BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Valenzuela May Stay With Edmonton

Share

Fernando Valenzuela is “considering very seriously” remaining with the Angels’ triple-A Edmonton farm team for the last two weeks of the Pacific Coast League season, according to his agent, Tony DeMarco.

When Valenzuela signed his second minor league contract with the Angels, the sides agreed he could request his release if he wasn’t recalled within a month of his first start, a deadline that passed on Monday. The Angels don’t want to promote him, but said he was welcome to remain with Edmonton. An official announcement of Valenzuela’s plans is expected today or Thursday.

Right-hander Kirk McCaskill has become the subject of trade rumors, with Detroit and Boston most frequently mentioned as probable destinations. It’s believed talks with Detroit have cooled. McCaskill is 9-16 and will be eligible for free agency after the season.
