Sports Bar Loses Point Over Its Name
How about Randy and Sinjin’s Serve Up?
An El Segundo bar must consider a name change after losing a trademark infringement suit filed by a Pasadena-based sportswear manufacturer, which claimed the bar sought to capitalize on the company’s moniker.
Sideout Sport Inc. won its case against Randy and Sinjin’s Sideout, the El Segundo watering hole that was previously known as Bentley’s Tavern. The clothing manufacturer claimed that the sports bar sought to cash in on the popularity of beach volleyball and the game’s top-ranked team--Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos. The bar is owned by Graham Gilliam.
Bar employees say the Sideout insignia has been removed from everything at the tavern, including the matches. The bar is now promoting itself simply as Randy and Sinjin’s.
