A pedestrian was fatally injured after he reportedly jumped into the path of a van on California 94, east of 17th Street in San Diego, authorities said.

The man, who has not been identified, died at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday at UC San Diego Medical Center after he was struck at 10:45 a.m., said David Lodge, a county medical examiner investigator.

The driver of the van, Thomas M. Daniel, 31, of El Cajon, was going west on 94 when the man jumped in front of him, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jackie Sturges.

The victim was Latino, 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-5 and 121 pounds, Lodge said. He had black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos, including a spider web on his left shoulder and the name Elvira with a star on his right shoulder.
