Leaving Memories turned in the fastest qualifying time Thursday in the trials that determined the 10 starters for the $2-million All American Futurity for quarter horses that will be run here on Sept. 2.

Leaving Memories, ridden by Luke Myles, won the sixth of eight 440-yard trials for the futurity, winning by 2 1/2 lengths in the time of 21.38.

“He’s just a natural runner,” said Myles, who got the mount when fellow California rider Kip Didericksen chose trainer Dwayne (Sleepy) Gilbreath’s other runner in the race, Holland Ease. “He left there super and was just widening every time he hit the ground.”
