*** 3rd Bass, “Derelicts of Dialect,” Columbia. In its De La Soul mode, 3rd Bass is all over the place, bouncing from comedy to social commentary (rapping censorship and pop-rap pap) to plain ol’ dissing--zapping everybody’s favorite target, Vanilla Ice. Most of it works, but some songs are too chaotic and many of the beats could use an extra dose of funk. But for the most part, MC Serch and Prime Minister Pete Nice cement their position as the best white rappers around.

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to five (a classic).
