Sumbu Kalambay of Italy stopped John Ashton of Britain in six rounds at Pesaro, Italy, to win the vacant European middleweight title.
Kalambay, 35, recovered from a knockdown in the first round to post his 52nd victory against five losses and one draw. Ashton (11-1-6) failed to answer the bell for the seventh round after being knocked down in the fifth and sixth.
