The Epic That Never Was (Channel 28 tonight at 11:15 p.m.). A splendid BBC documentary probing why Josef von Sternberg was not allowed by Alexander Korda to complete his 1937 film of Robert Graves’ “I Claudius,” starring Charles Laughton.

Breathless (Bravo Monday at 5 p.m., again at 11:30 p.m.) is just as fresh and startling as it was when it was first released in 1959. Jean-Luc Godard’s restless, shoot-from-the-hip style, hasn’t become dated, but because we’re more familiar with it, it’s easier now to appreciate just how truly extraordinary Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg are.

Jazz on a Summer’s Day (A&E; Tuesday at 6 p.m., again at 10 p.m.). Bert Stern’s landmark 1959 concert documentary of the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Most memorable image: Anita O’Day performing in a fancy garden party outfit complete with picture hat.
