Elizabeth Rice; Retired Day-Care Provider

Elizabeth N. Rice, who ran a day-care service in her North Hollywood home for about 30 years, has died. She was 73.

Mrs. Rice died at her home Sunday of heart failure, said her longtime friend, Margaret Lorimer.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, she came to California in the late 1920s and became a U. S. citizen. Mrs. Rice operated a licensed day-care service at her house from the mid-1950s until her retirement in 1986. Pictures of many of the children she cared for are displayed at her residence.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Rice of North Hollywood. Her husband, Lester Rice, died in 1964.

Visitation is planned from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in the Hollywood Hills, which is handling the arrangements. A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Rice’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
