Opinionated Hayes: A pioneer of the American theater, Helen Hayes is unhappy about what’s going on in her realm. Hayes, 90, spoke Wednesday at Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., and said such Broadway hits as “Miss Saigon,” “Les Miserables,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats” miss the point. “I don’t like to see the theater imitating the movies and that’s what this amounts to,” she said. Hayes hasn’t seen “Miss Saigon” but doesn’t like what she’s heard about it. The actress was accepting an honorary degree.
