Police arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly used karate to attack a group of men leaving a Belmont Shore bar, authorities said Thursday.

Michael Karahalious, 26, of Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for the Aug. 3 attack of five men outside a bar in the 5200 block of East 2nd Street, Lt. Bob Gillissie said. One of the victims suffered severe head injuries from the blows, police said.

Karahalious did not steal any money or jewelry from the men, Gillissie said. “He was just out having a good time and it looks like he wanted to see how this stuff (karate) worked,” he said. Detectives traced Karahalious through a karate tournament in Long Beach on the weekend of Aug. 3.
