OUTLOOK

Fullerton won six of its eight games last year in the fourth quarter, and Coach Pat Ward credits the school’s winning tradition and conditioning program for the victories. “Our off-season conditioning program isn’t what I’d like it to be, but once the season starts, our players are in top shape,” Ward said. The fittest of the fit is De La Torre, who won the Indians’ iron-man award as the team’s top conditioned athlete. Iuli is a three-year starter who will anchor a solid defense that also includes standout Brian Wilber at linebacker. Keith Ginter is the only sophomore on the squad and is the heir apparent to Daniel Chacon at quarterback next season. A 24-20 loss in the first round of the Division VI playoffs last year still bothers Ward. “It was the only game in which the kids didn’t respond to me, and I’ll take full blame for that,” he said. “I was completely outcoached. I think we’ll have another good team. I would be happy to go 8-3 again this season.”
