2 Sought in Slaying of TV News Engineer

Detectives believe two suspects were involved in the killing of an Emmy-winning television news engineer whose body was found in a shallow grave in the Angeles National Forest, authorities said Monday.

The body of Jeffrey Bowman Webreck, 44, of Glendale was found Saturday in a grave about 200 feet from Angeles Crest Highway near the Chilao Flats Campground. His car, a tan BMW, was found abandoned at 11th Street and Central Avenue in downtown Los Angeles about the same time. The news engineer disappeared after leaving work at KCOP Channel 13 about 11 p.m. Sept. 3.

But detectives still have not been able to track Webreck’s path, Benedict said. They believe the news engineer was kidnaped, robbed and killed.

Webreck had been shot in the top of the head, he said. He was not bound or gagged and there was no evidence of a struggle, Sheriff’s Lt. Derry Benedict said.
