Monterey Park : Water Rates May Increase
The price of water may increase under new rates tentatively adopted Monday by the City Council.
The city, which owns its water utility, will raise about $425,000 from the higher rates, Public Works Director Nels Palm said.
The council voted 4 to 1, with Councilwoman Marie T. Purvis opposed, to adopt the plan, which will face a final vote at the council’s Sept. 23 meeting. The price increases will take effect 30 days after final approval.
An average family’s monthly water bill will jump 12.9%, from $12.84 to $14.50. Low-income families would be eligible for reduced rates.
