In response to one of the central recommendations of the Christopher Commission’s report for reforming the Los Angeles Police Department, the city’s Police Commission has scheduled a public forum on the issue of community-based policing and has invited an academic expert to testify.
Commission President Stanley Sheinbaum announced Wednesday that he has asked Robert Trojanowicz, director of the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, to testify during a public hearing to be held next Thursday at Parker Center.
The hearing will be the first in a series, Sheinbaum said. He said the commission is hoping the forum will help better define how community-based policing should work in Los Angeles.
