The son of super-producer Quincy Jones seems more influenced by the Ice Cubes, N.W.A’s and Ice-T’s of the world than by his own world-famous dad. There is an undeniable studio polish to his debut album, but it’s mostly filled with generic gangsta-rap that singer Regina Taplin manages to enliven with her steeped-in-soul vocals on “I Need.”
