BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Bay to Leave Minnesota for Indians
Rick Bay, the men’s athletic director at the University of Minnesota, said he tentatively has accepted an offer to become president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Indians. Bay, the former athletic director at Ohio State, would replace Hank Peters, who is retiring at the end of the year. John Hart, Cleveland’s director of baseball operations, is expected to succeed Peters as the top baseball person with the team. . . . Former Montreal Expo Warren Cromartie, who returned for a final major league season with the Kansas City Royals after seven seasons in Japan, has retired.
