Jose Canseco is unhappy with the way he is being treated by the Oakland fans and has asked his agent to look into trade possibilities after the season.

“I’m treated better by the fans on the road than the fans at home,” Canseco told ESPN. “I told my agent to sit down with (General Manager) Sandy Alderson at the end of the season to explore playing elsewhere.”

Canseco, who is leading the Athletics with 41 homers and 111 runs batted in, signed a five-year extension with Oakland last season for $23.5 million.

Canseco cited what he considered unfair treatment of his wife, Esther, by the Bay area fans.

Tony Gwynn, outfielder for the San Diego Padres who is second in the NL batting race at .317, will have arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to remove cartilage in his left knee and might sit out the rest of the season.

Gwynn has sat out 10 of San Diego’s last 16 games, including the last four, because of the injury.

A failure in an engine turbine caused an unscheduled stop for an airliner carrying the White Sox from Anaheim to Chicago early Monday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The America West Airlines Boeing 737 made an unscheduled stop in Des Moines after the pilot reported losing power in one of the plane’s two engines shortly before 1 a.m. CDT. A preliminary investigation showed that the engine’s turbine section failed, an FAA spokeswoman said.

The plane landed safely, and the airline provided another plane for the team, said America West spokeswoman Daphne Dicino. The White Sox finally arrived in Chicago shortly after 1:30 a.m. CDT.
