It’s Mouthwash and It’s Dry

Share

New to the mouthwash market is Spritz, a dry mouthwash that’s alcohol-free and easy to tote along in 1-gram foil sachets. (To use, add two ounces of water.)

Active ingredients include essential oils for anti-germ action, xylitol to reduce cavity-causing bacteria, menthol and thymol, says Mark E. Wilson, chairman of the Houston-based company that manufactures the product. He expects the mouthwash will appeal especially to recovering substance abusers and to people concerned about a recent report--disputed by some experts--that the use of alcohol-containing mouthwashes increases the risk of oral cancer. (Spritz is available by mail order, (800) 622-5587. Cost is $ 6.29 for a 24-pack.)

“This mouthwash probably can’t hurt, but don’t rely on any mouthwash (alone) to reduce plaque or improve oral hygiene effectively,” says Steven Goldy, a Beverly Hills dentist.
