Godunov’s New Dance
The obvious pun suggested by “Lost in America,” Diane Haithman’s Sept. 8 profile of actor Alexander Godunov is: Is Alexander “good enough”? Or has he “got enough”?
You point out that Godunov’s role as a villain in “Die Hard” brought him offers that he turned down to avoid being typecast.
Hollywood sins are different from those elsewhere, and Godunov has committed several by maintaining this attitude: (1) Your photos reveal his intensity to be best exploited as a villain; this man is angry. (2) He insults great character actors who have been stereotyped and have learned to live with it with grace. (3) You do not succeed in Hollywood by telling potential employers to take a hike.
Godunov should chill out or go home to the Soviet Union. I am a filmmaker, and from those photos, I’m not sure I would want him on the set.
