Cut Phone Wire Leaves 3,400 Without Service

Pacific Bell telephone crews worked Saturday to repair severed cables that left 3,400 Northridge area customers without service.

The problem began Thursday afternoon when an independent contractor cut through underground cables while digging near Independence Avenue and Parthenia Street, said Kate Flynn, spokeswoman for Pacific Bell.

“Our crew went out there immediately,” Flynn said. “We began repair right away.”

By noon Saturday, all but 400 of the severed lines had been repaired and were expected to be in service by 6 p.m., Flynn said.
