Suspect’s Weight Not Relevant

Share

I would like to know if the article on Sept. 18 (“Suspect Charged in Hammer Attack”) was about the shocking and disgusting attack or about how much the suspect weighed. I noticed an article on the same page about a man sentenced to 10 years in an attack on a prostitute.

Not only was his weight not mentioned in the article, but neither was his height. Facts should be printed that would be of benefit in the protection against violence-prone individuals. However, let’s make this information consistent. I do not think it necessary to protect myself by knowing that David Bell sleeps on a mattress on the floor or that the police couldn’t get the handcuffs around his wrists. OK, I get it that this guy is big, but that is not what the story is about. The story is about his attacking his mother.

This type of biased reporting only feeds society’s negative, judgmental behavior toward those that don’t fall into the media-imposed picture of a “normal” human being.
